For grades 7-12, each day begins with high energy yoga and meditation. The heart of our practice teaches true happiness comes from within. Yoga and meditation are scientifically proven techniques that help students achieve academic excellence, reduces stress, balance emotions and teach compassion, calmness and higher awareness.
Our yoga practice includes the energization exercises, 39 exercises designed to give students an increased awareness of the energy flow in the body. Over time, students learn how to release any stored bodily tension and to relax more easily. The complete series takes 10-15 minutes.
Students learn how to open the heart through devotional chanting, which includes music and mantras from Native American, Indian, Hawaiian, and Buddhist traditions, as well as chants in English, Italian, Spanish, Hawaiian, Hindi, and Sanskrit. Through meditation, which lasts between 5 and 20 minutes, students learn how to concentrate more deeply.
The true purpose of yoga and meditation is to develop higher consciousness: to become the best version of ourselves that we can be. Students are encouraged to discover which practices are right for them and to dedicate themselves to becoming the best they can be.
The White Light Kirtan Band
The White Light Kirtan Band was started by students interested in kirtan, or devotional chanting. They play a wide spectrum of music encompassing many traditions and artists, including Amma, Krishna Das, Swami Kriyananda and chants composed by student band-members. We sing in Sanskrit, English, Italian, Spanish and Hawaiian!
The White Light Kirtan Band’s mission is to inspire others to seek truth, and to help spread light to all living things on this planet.
The instruments we use include guitar, base, harmonium, djembe drum, kirtals, tambourines, and pretty much anything anyone has a passion for, including violin, cello and harp!
The White Light tours the West Coast, performing in Ashland, Portland, Seattle, Grass Valley, Los Angeles and Palo Alto. In the past, we’ve made trips to the East Coast and Canada as well. These incredible trips inspire so many people give students a chance to share their light.
