5th and 6th grade are a time of adventure, group projects, and fun, as well as preparing for the upcoming transition into junior high where academics and expectations are much more focused. During these years of transition, students work on learning to write papers, learning to research, learning to give presentations, and beginning homework. They also have regular art classes, music classes, sports, and field trips.
Camping and backpacking trips mark the beginning and end of each year to challenge the students, create strong bonds, connect with nature, and have a fun adventure. Parents join the kids for these trips to support them and to be involved with the class.
Overall, these years are a time when kids are allowed to be kids, but are also challenged and introduced to more responsibility.
